Open Question: Is it wrong to use photos [or other samples] to learn drawing?

Hello, Drawing is my favorite hobby and for my age I'm pretty good in it. But,as everyone,I also have weak points (especially hands,anathomy ect.) And sometimes I have a photo and I try to draw the gesture of the person(s).I do not trace the picture,but having a sample helps me to understand the proportions of a human. So is it wrong to be based on samples? I am still in a learning phase,an could it be that it is better to do everything by yourself?
