Open Question: Do the movies Jarhead and Platoon insult the US military?

I am currently in the army stationed in Germany and Im having a rough time with it. The social pressures, the boredom and the pressure. It was what I wanted to do for all my life but Im starting to learn what it really is. I feel very much like the lead characters in Jarhead and Platoon. Both of them joined the military and ended up hating it. I remember reading the book Jarhead by Anthony Swofford and I can relate it so much to my own experience. All I want is to get deployed and my unit is supposed to do so but it may get delayed any time and Im becoming convinced that Im just gonna be sitting around in Germany for the next three years doing nothing of value. I am wondering though if that movie Jarhead is an insult to the american servicemen and women. It shows an undisciplined, poorly mannered group of marines who are bored and want to see action but in the end never do. To me, it seems quite realistic but many consider it insulting.
